Eighteen pints of blood were collected during NEFAR's World Blood Donor Day event on June 14, and the donation was enough to save 54 lives. Hosted by the Global Business Council and the Community Affairs Task Force, OneBlood's Big Red Bus spent five hours in the parking lot of the NEFAR Resource Center. At least 27 NEFAR members and staff volunteered to donate or assist with the event, with donors entering the large red bus four at a time.
“All I can say is wow! You guys stepped up in a BIG way yesterday!” said Peter Baylay, account representative with OneBlood.?“We registered 19 people and collected 18 units. That is eight units over our goal and 54 lives saved!!? Thank you all very much for coordinating and getting the word out,” he continued. “The summer months are the hardest for us, and you all made my boss very happy yesterday with your efforts.”
Chairing the event were Global Business Council Chairman April Hall-Lloyd and Community Affairs Task Force Chairman Margarita Cavanagh.
Donating a pint during the blood drive were Jeanne Denton-Scheck, April Hall-Lloyd, Laila Iarossi, Rae Laws, Yosvany Perez Rojas, James E. Pierce, Janna Thomas, Leighann Triplett, Elizabeth Wells, Carray Young, Rory Dubin, Tiea Vincent, Eric Cavanagh, Beverly Carr, Don Mullinex, Shannon Trahan, Christine Baranofsky, Samantha Heflin, and Greg Wells.
Also assisting in the organization of the event were Sharon McNeal, Robbie Sears, Margie Anderson, Jackie Boyd, Laila Iarossi, and Ed Santiago. Don Williams and Silmara Castilios were also on hand assist.
Everyone who donated blood received a special water bottle and a $20 gift certificate from OneBlood. NEFAR’s Global Business Council also held a drawing and selected five winners – one for each hour the drive was held. Winning the $25 Visa gift cards were James Pierce of Adarah LLC, Leighann Triplett of Milestone Title Services, Jeanne Denton-Scheck of Davidson Realty, Ed Santiago of The Legends of Real Estate, and Yosvany Perez Rojas of Your Property Realty.
