A very quiet digital artist is the new force behind NEFAR’s rapidly expanding social media presence.
Katherine Mezich, a recent graduate from the University of North Florida (UNF), has been hired to serve in a new position – Marketing Coordinator. She joins Creative Director Joshua Garrett and Communications Director Marcia Hodgson as the third leg of NEFAR’s Communications Department. Her first day on the job was March 6.
Graduating from UNF in 2022, Katherine comes to NEFAR with plenty of digital experience. In college she majored in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Digital Marketing and a minor in Digital Humanities. While in school, she served as the vice president of social media for the UNF branch of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
Katherine worked as a research assistant for UNF’s Red Hill Cemetery Project in Waycross, Georgia, where she helped build a virtual cemetery documenting the burial grounds history and preserving the memory of the African Americans who are laid to rest there. She also did a remote internship for Topic Insights, a Colorado company, where she developed, executed, and coordinated social media accounts, while she was still in school.
After graduation, she worked as a hybrid marketing specialist for My Virtual Resources in Jacksonville.
An avid listener, Katherine presents a cool, calm presence behind her two computer screens in her Deercreek Club Road office. “People are always saying that I’m quiet, but I prefer to listen to other people than talk myself,” she explained. Rest assured, Katherine brings the skills of social media marketing, project management, email campaigns, content writing, photo and video editing, layout and design and website management to her work at NEFAR.
Prior to working for our REALTOR® association, Katherine helped a real estate agent with social media marketing. “My job now is similar to what I was doing before, which made me want to apply at NEFAR,” she said. “I enjoy creating flyers and graphics for NEFAR’s upcoming events. In the past three months, I am so happy to have been able to learn and experiment a lot more with InDesign and Photoshop.”
In her spare time, Katherine enjoys reading, painting, photography, and hiking Jacksonville’s nature trails. A native of Tallahassee, Katherine heads back to the state capitol for holidays to visit family and her two puppies, Juniper and Quincy. Her father works for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and her mom serves with the Early Learning Coalition. Like his sister, Katherine’s older brother, Michael, is also artistic. He lives in Tampa where he teaches art at a public high school.
