Dorothy “Dot” Knight Snead
April 19, 1930 – March 25, 2023
The NEFAR community was saddened to learn of the death of longtime NEFAR member and REALTOR® emeritus Dorothy Knight Snead, who passed away on March 25, 2023, in Jacksonville, Florida.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Parkwood Baptist Church, 7900 Lone Star Road in Jacksonville. A double interment will take place in Jacksonville National Cemetery at a date still to be determined so she can rest with her late husband of 66 years, James Douglas Snead, Jr. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Parkwood Baptist Church of Jacksonville.
“Her whole life was real estate,” said Jennifer Snead, Mrs. Snead’s daughter-in-law, who is a NEFAR member and agent with Florida Homes Realty and Mortgage. “She was the reason I got into real estate.”
Mrs. Snead, who was known as “Dot” to her friends, family, and clients, joined NEFAR on March 9, 1973, and worked as a REALTOR for over 45 years until 2017, when she became inactive due to health reasons. During her lengthy career she worked for several brokerages, including Watson Realty Corp., Coldwell Banker, and Prudential. In her final year, she was an agent with A1A North Florida Properties. During her tenure in real estate, Mrs. Snead helped many clients find permanent homes.
“She was a wonderful person and a very knowledgeable and professional REALTOR® for a number of years. She was a good friend to so many in the business,” remembered Selby Kaiser of The Legends of Real Estate.
Audrey Lackie, broker/owner of The Legends of Real Estate, agreed. As a friend to Mrs. Snead for 50 years, she recalled that she was in elementary school when they first met. “I was in the fourth grade when Dot sold my family a home,” Lackie recalled. “Then, she was an associate when I was a managing broker at Prudential. Dot was a wonderful and extremely hardworking agent. Her customers were her friends. She worked night and day, and she paid great attention to detail. She left no stone unturned when it came to getting the job done. Real estate was her thing for sure.”
Ever the gracious Southern woman, Mrs. Snead was born in Baxley, Georgia. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents and her son, James Douglas Snead III. She is survived by her son David Snead (Marilu), and daughter-in-law Jennifer Snead, as well as six dearly loved grandchildren, and nine beloved great grandchildren.
