Just because you hold a real estate license doesn't mean you're good to go forever.
In Florida, your initial real estate license expires in 18 to 24 months from the date when you passed the state real estate exam. Check it out, the expiration date is located on the bottom of your license.
At the end of the cycle before you renew your real estate license for the first time, you must complete and pass a state-approved 45-hour post-license curriculum that builds on the knowledge you acquired during the pre-licensing education courses. This is important because if you don’t complete the first-renewal post-license education by the expiration date, you will have to start over completely. You will have to retake the pre-license course, pass the exam, and retake the state exam.
One easy option that many new sales associates choose to fulfill their 45-hour post-license requirement is to enroll in Graduate Realtor Institute (GRI) 100 Series education classes. These classes help sales associates prepare for a successful real estate career. NEFAR offers these classes at several times throughout the year.
After the first post-license renewal period, real estate sales associates are required to take 14 hours of Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC)-approved continuing education (CE) classes during each two-year license renewal period for the duration of their real estate careers. One way to get your 14 CE requirements done in one fell swoop is to take the 14-hour Mainstream “Everything you need to know to renew your license” course on Wednesday, Sept. 1. The two-day course which runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the NEFAR Resource Center, includes Core Law and Ethics. It will be taught by Christine Williams.

This class teaches how to use the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) 26-page booklet entitled “Your Home Loan Tool Kit.” Understanding this tool kit is essential if REALTORS® want to fully understand the TILA-RESPA guidelines. In the class, participants will learn how to make appropriate calculations and speak with authority regarding the nuances of the new disclosure and closing process. Upon completing of the class, students will be able to identify the most important steps a consumer should make before buying a home. They will know what affects a consumer’s loan qualification and be able to explain three important concepts: 1) front and back ratios to a borrower 2) zero-point loans, 3) what to do if a consumer gets behind on the mortgage.
