All Hail The Winners!

Congratulations to NEFAR's 2020 award winners, who were announced on Jan. 15 at NEFAR's 2021 Installation of Officers and Awards event, themed Passion, Resilience, and Luck.

Check out the event video here to see our winners say a few words about receiving their awards.

Realtor of the Year – Michael Hodges

Our winner is a versatile and active member who has given much time and expertise to NEFAR in multiple arenas. He served on the Professional Standards Committee, both as a panelist and chair for numerous hearings, where he is relied upon for his professionalism and expertise.

His expertise has also supported NEFAR communications, where he has been a timely and accurate resource for multiple media inquiries, furthering our role as the voice for real estate in Northeast Florida.

One area in which he shines especially bright is advocacy work with the Legislative Committee, which he chaired in 2019 and 2020. Extending to state and national levels, he has advocated for or against policies on behalf of Realtors, property managers, and homeowners. He has worked with multiple industry groups and elected officials on issues including Fair Housing, tenants’ rights, disparate impact, rental registrations, short term rentals, and COVID-19 eviction moratoriums.

One exemplary accomplishment is his work on state reforms to the emotional support animal policies from 2018 until the bill was passed and signed into law in June 2020.

Simultaneously in 2018 and 2019, he worked with NEFAR on several local short-term rental ordinances. He was instrumental in bringing together and hosting a meeting for NEFAR and several other associations with interests in this issue. He also presented NEFAR’s position to St. Johns County Commissioner Jimmy Johns.

Recently, he served on the Florida Eviction Task Force, providing input to the Governor about the impacts of the COVID-19 eviction moratorium and advocating for rental relief assistance to be paid directly to property owners.

A key contact for Rep. Jason Fischer since 2016, his relationships with Rep. Fischer and other officials have elevated NEFAR’s voice in legislative matters statewide and nationally.

He has also served as a long-term member of NEFAR’s Candidate Screening Task Force, which he chaired in 2018. Besides chairing interviews, he led the Task Force through an extensive review and update of Candidate Screening Policies and Procedures, strengthening the process.

This winner has further demonstrated commitment to the industry by contributing to RPAC for many years and is currently a major investor at the Sterling R ($1,000 annually) level.

In addition to his multitude of NEFAR support, this Realtor of the Year is a long-time leader at the local, state and national level of the National Association of Property Managers. He organized NARPM lobbying trips to D.C. in 2018 and 2019 and was a key factor in NARPM establishing a national PAC to advocate for property management issues.

He’s been a fixture on the scene working tirelessly for years, so this recognition is well overdue. Please join NEFAR in congratulating one of our most active, supportive, and exemplary members, NEFAR’s 2020 Realtor of the Year Michael Hodges!
