On Thursday, May 5, real estate professionals from the Northeast Florida Association of REALTORS® (NEFAR) will team up with Rethreaded, a local nonprofit, to dismantle old leather airline seats so the materials can be repurposed into handmade leather goods and accessories that can be sold. The event will include approximately 70 REALTORS from throughout the region and will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Rethreaded Warehouse on the Delores Barr Weaver Campus of Hope, 515 East 9th Street in Jacksonville, 32206.

Rethreaded is a nonprofit organization that makes and sells handmade leather goods and accessories so that victims of human trafficking can have a second chance at life through viable employment. Its mission is to renew hope, reignite dreams, and release potential for survivors of sex trafficking both locally and globally through business. The women it serves are given employment opportunities in different facets of the company including production, inventory, sales, marketing and finance and administration.

The real estate volunteers will be led by REALTORS® Christina Welch and Margarita Cavanagh, who are the chairmen of NEFAR’s Community Affairs Task Force, which spearheads several charitable events within the community throughout the year. Later this summer, the task force is sponsoring a massive community-wide river and ocean clean-up event on Saturday, July 23.

NEFAR serves as the voice of real estate for the region. As the largest professional association in Northeast Florida, it represents more than 11,000 members who work in all facets of the real estate industry including residential and commercial sales and property management. It also serves the public by supporting community programs such by partnering with Rethreaded during this event on May 5.
