$34,508 Raised by NEFAR at 14th Annual Charity Bass Fishing Tournament
NEFAR has donated $324,436 to Haven Hospice from Bass Tournaments since inception.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Northeast Florida Association of Realtors (NEFAR) held its 14th Annual Charity Bass Fishing Tournament and Family Fun Day on April 29, along the St. Johns River in Palatka (Palatka City Docks and Amphitheatre at U.S. 17).

The catch-and-release Tournament and Family Fun Day netted $34,508 for donation to Haven Hospice. Since inception, NEFAR has raised $324,546 to benefit the unreimbursed programs and services provided by Haven Hospice to patients and families in Palatka and the surrounding areas.

There were 183 fishing teams / boats entered in the 2017 Tournament. As teams fished, the Family Fun Day was enjoyed by the public, who browsed the wares and services at 14 vendor booths. The Family Fun Day offers something for everyone, with activities including a big slide for children, children’s fish tank fishing (catch and release a live fish), Reel Kids Casting Skills Contest, and live music. A special appearance by Gatorland of Orlando’s “Dean of Alligator Wrestling” Tim Williams, accompanied by live alligators and other reptiles for visitors to touch and hold, is among the most popular attractions. With the exception of food and merchandise purchases from vendor booths, all Family Fun Day activities are provided free of charge.

After the 3 p.m. weigh-in, fishing team prizes were awarded and drawings for door prizes were held. More than two dozen participants earned cash prices, including Tournament winners Bobby Johnson and Judith Foxx-Johnson, Biggest Bass winner Michael S. Johnson, and Average Jose winner Tom Brooks.

2017 NEFAR President Marc Jernigan said, “NEFAR is fortunate to have many members who volunteer in a variety of civic and charitable organizations and activities. Our annual NEFAR Charity Bass Fishing Tournament is one way in which we collectively demonstrate NEFAR good works; supporting the communities of Northeast Florida that support us.”
