12th Annual NEFAR Charity Bass Fishing Tournament Nets $35,256 for Haven Hospice
Big fish, big money! Total donated by NEFAR to Haven Hospice now exceeds $250,000.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Northeast Florida Association of Realtors (NEFAR) held its 12th Annual Charity Bass Fishing Tournament and Family Fun Day on April 25 along the banks of the St. Johns River in downtown Palatka (Palatka City Docks and Amphitheatre at U.S. 17).
The catch-and-release Tournament and Family Fun Day netted $35,256 for donation to Haven Hospice, bringing the total raised and donated during the past 12 years to $250,552.
A strong jump in number of fishing teams was noted; up from 114 last year to 162 this year. The Family Fun Day also drew more traffic this year and enhanced engagement with attendees prior to the 3 p.m. fish weigh-in. Family Fun Day activities included a big slide for children; children’s fish tank fishing (catch and release a live fish); Reel Kids Casting Skills Contest (specified age groups compete for prizes); Army vehicles on display; an open car show with antique, custom and special interest vehicles; the Keystone Cloudbusters remote controlled model airplane club; music; and merchandise and food vendors. Other than food and merchandise purchases, all Family Fun Day activities are provided free of charge.
After the weigh-in, prizes were awarded and drawings for door prizes were held. Key raffle items included a 50” Samsung LED Smart HDTV and a $2,500 Media Works gift certificate good for a personalized car or boat wrap.
2015 NEFAR President Sally Suslak said, "Our annual NEFAR Charity Bass Fishing Tournament is part of NEFAR's commitment to the communities in which we live and work. Raising money for Haven Hospice gives us the chance to offer support to those served by a very worthy organization."
