JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Big fish, big money! On April 26, the Northeast Florida Association of Realtors (NEFAR) presented a check for $27,717 to Haven Hospice from the proceeds of NEFAR's 11th Annual Charity Bass Fishing Tournament and Family Fun Day. Since event inception 11 years ago, NEFAR has raised and donated $215,296 to Haven Hospice. The catch-and-release Tournament is held each year at the Palatka riverfront along the banks of the St. Johns.
The 2014 event featured 114 boats, with fishing teams vying for prizes including $2,500 for first place and $1,000 for the largest fish caught. The fishing team of James Bullard and Marcus Hodges had a fantastic day, winning in both the first place and largest fish categories and taking home a pay day of $3,500 as a result. Their five fish limit weighed in at 30.61 pounds and included the 10.82 pound big bass.
The Haven Hospice Family Fun Day activities included a blow-up slide and Reel Kids Casting Skills Competition for children in two age brackets: 7-11 years and 12-15 years.
