NEFAR Classes: NEFAR offers both classroon and online courses. Classroom courses are held at various locations, including our five NEFAR Service Centers: The Resource Center (headquarters Service Center in Jacksonville), Beaches Service Center, Putnam Service Center, Southwest Service Center and St. Johns Service Center. In addition, classes are held at varying offsite locations as announced. Due to construction at The Resource Center / NEFAR headquarters, all NEFAR education courses normally held there are now at a temporary location in The Avenues Mall, 10300 Southside Blvd, Jacksonville. Enter the mall in the rear entrance (facing Philips Hwy.) that has a VisionWorks sign on the outside. NEFAR is immediately inside on the left, across from VisionWorks.

Online registration is preferred for all courses. You may, however, register for classroom courses that do not require payment via NEFAR's Education Hotline: (904) 394-9494, ext. 1650. Some classes may require a completed registration form to be submitted to NEFAR or elsewhere. Registration requirements are included in the course description for each class. Cancellations | No Shows: Although NEFAR does not charge a no-show fee, calling to cancel a registration is a courtesy that should always be extended, as doing so often allows a fellow NEFAR member to be accommodated. NEFAR does not confirm course cancellations. In instances where you wish to cancel a course for which you have registered and paid a fee, you must email (verbal cancellations are not accepted) a cancellation and refund request to NEFAR's Education Director Cindy Foley no later than four business days prior to the first day of the class, unless otherwise indicated.

Confirmations: Course Registration Confirmations are emailed to you the next business day after registering, to the preferred email address listed on your NEFAR member record. It is your responsibility to maintain a current, valid email address in your NEFAR member record. If you do not receive a Course Registration Confirmation after the next business day, please contact NEFAR Education Department staff (or contact NEFMLS if you've registered for a flexMLS course). Course Registration Confirmations list only the first date of the class, even if the class is a multiple day course.

Replacement CE Slips: Replacement CE Slips can be purchased for a $10 fee for courses taken within the past two years. For courses taken beyond the two-year time frame, the charge for replacement CE Slips is $20.

NEFMLS Classes: NEFAR does not handle courses produced by NEFMLS. Direct all questions regarding NEFMLS course registration, cancellations, payment, etc. directly to the Northeast Florida Multiple Listing Service at (904) 394-9494, ext. 1603.

Code of Ethics Requirement - Realtor Membership AND Florida License Renewal

Code of Ethics course completion is a Realtor association membership requirement mandated by the National Association of Realtors (NAR). In addition, effective in 2018, the State of Florida also includes completion of an ethics course as a licensing and renewal requirement.

Regardless of when your license expires, all NEFAR Realtor Members must take an approved ethics class within the time frame established by NAR to maintain your Realtor association membership, and also in accordance with the 2018 State of Florida real estate education licensing law to renew and maintain an active Florida real estate license. Compliance deadlines are:

DBPR Requirement

  • If your standard renewal date is March 30: all education requirements (including ethics) must be met.
  • If your standard renewal date is Sept. 30: all education requirements (including ethics) must be met.

NAR Requirement

  • Dec. 31 (every two years, on even years - example: end of 2018, end of 2020, etc.) – Regardless of your license date! To maintain membership in a Realtor assocation, you are required to complete an approved ethics course during every two-year Code of Ethics requirement cycle. 

The most recent NAR Code of Ethics cycle ended Dec. 31, 2018. The current NAR Code of Ethics cycle began Jan. 1, 2019 and ends Dec. 31, 2020.

What this means for Florida Realtors: If your real estate license renews on either March 31, 2021 or Sept. 30, 2021: although you aren't required to complete your other education requirements for Florida license renewal until your license renewal date, you must still complete an NAR-approved ethics course by Dec. 31, 2020 to be in compliance with the NAR two-year ethics requirement to maintain Realtor association membership.

Florida Education License Renewal Requirements

Florida license renewal is conducted online at via www.MyFloridaLicense.com.

Sales associates: In their first renewal period, sales associates must complete the 45 Hour Salesperson's Post Licensing Course only. Successfully completing the GRI I course also satisfies this requirement. Note: taking miscellaneous classes that total 45 hours does not satisfy the requirement. If you are not in your first renewal period, you must complete 14 hours of continuing education credits - three of which must be Core Law, three must be ethics, plus eight hours of specialty credit (any other continuing education approved course; any subject).

Brokers must complete 60 hours of Broker Post Licensing (initial renewal only). Taking both GRI II and GRI III satisfies this requirement (each class is 30 hours).

Tracking Education Credits: You are responsible for retaining any course completion certificate from classes you take, optimally for seven years (in case of audit). You can view and track your credits at
www.MyFloridaLicense.com. Note: NEFAR has files on only those classes for which NEFAR is the CE provider. NEFAR electronically reports all CE credits within 30 days maximum (usually within two weeks) to the Dept. of Business and Professional Regulation.

NEFAR is not furnished with course completion reports from other course providers regarding classes you have taken, nor does NEFAR receive any notices from the State of Florida, Dept. of Business and Professional Regulation regarding courses you have taken. All CE credit requirements must be completed by the renewal date indicated on your real estate license.

New Member Orientation

Mandatory for Primary Realtor Members: Orientation is a mandatory two day class for all primary Realtor members of NEFAR. Orientation must be completed within 90 days of joining. Secondary members are not required to attend NEFAR Orientation since they should have already completed Orientation through the primary Realtor association.

Scheduling and Location: Upon joining as a primary Realtor member, you will be assigned a New Member Orientation date to attend. Orientation is two full days from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. and is normally held at The Resource Center / NEFAR headquarters location. Agenda and Requirements Your attendance at Orientation is required all day for both days as a mandatory membership requirement. You must also sign-in and sign-out as directed, as a record of your actual attendance is required. Orientation consists of mandatory Code of Ethics training, required education requirements, an in-depth overview of NEFAR contracts, Realtor safety, training on Fair Housing and Agency / Antitrust, and an introduction to the Northeast Florida Multiple Listing Service (NEFMLS). After completion, attendees are inducted and transition from an applicant Realtor to a Realtor.
